Microstretching is an active realignment soft tissue manual manipulation technique based on gentle passive stretching techniques developed at the Serapis Stretch Therapy and The Microstretching Clinic in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The study of pain, specifically chronic pain was the motivation behind the development of the technique. The emphasis is focussed on relaxing the nervous system thereby stimulating the body’s own recuperative energy. Microstretching decreases the influence of inflammation, inflammation that may be in response to a physical, mental, emotional and chemical stimulus. Microstretching is in direct contrast to traditional views of stretching providing relief without the creation of pain.
